Check out the display of books funded by the Rotary Club of Naugatuck!
When you visit The Whittemore Library during the month of January, please be sure to stop by the Whittemore Gallery Wall located on the main floor in the Adult Department. There you will find on display a wonderful collection of fiction and non-fiction books funded by the Rotary Club of Naugatuck during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Each year since 1955, the library has received an annual stipend with which to purchase books on a variety of subjects. Each book entered into the library’s collection is labeled with a special bookplate featuring the Rotary seal and a Rotarian’s name. Books have been purchased based on the special interests of a Rotarian on the occasion of their birthday or on the New York Times best-seller lists. To date over 4012 books have been added to the library’s permanent collection.
The Rotary Club of Naugatuck was originally a men’s humanitarian service organization, but today, the Club’s membership is made up of a cross-section of the community’s business and professional indi- viduals who expound the Rotarian motto: Service above Self. Rotarians meet every Wednesday at 12:15pm at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant for fellowship, lunch, and an informative and interesting presentation from a guest speaker. Individuals from the community who are interested in membership are invited to contact Rotarian Ginger Fennell (GFennell@ionbank.com) for information regarding sponsorship in the organization.
The Whittemore Library Staff gratefully acknowledges the auspices of the Rotary Club of Naugatuck and encourages patrons to check out books from this fascinating collection of both fiction and non-fiction works which are sure to please even the most discerning reader!
